Great news for the growth and development of our school!
Following two visits by the Council Of British International Schools (COBIS), British School of Tirana is now a Compliance member.
The school has met the standards as set out by COBIS for The Patron’s Accreditation Compliance programme.
The school is now a COBIS Member and joining a global network of over 290 British international schools in 80 countries worldwide.
For our parents and children, it means that we have shown that we meet the highest standards of international and British best practice in providing children with the maximum levels of support in their development at primary and secondary school.
These internationally recognised standards cover the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils; their welfare, health and safety; the suitability of the proprietor and staff; the school’s premises and accommodation; and the school’s complaints procedures. An essential part of the process is considering the extent to which the British character of the school is evident in its ethos, curriculum, teaching, care for pupils and pupils’ achievements.
The membership was the culmination of 12 months’ collaboration with a COBIS designated Lead Improvement Partner to provide evidence that the school meets the COBIS standards followed up by 2 visits in September and November 2019.
COBIS represents member schools and the interests of its pupils, parents, governors and staff by:
- Providing formal recognition of school inspections carried out by all inspectorates approved by the Department for Education (UK) for British Schools Overseas
- Facilitating, coordinating and supporting networking opportunities for international schools
- Representing member schools with the British Government, educational bodies, and the corporate sector
- Providing access to information about trends and developments in UK education
- Providing effective professional development for senior leaders, teachers and support staff
- Promoting career opportunities within the global COBIS network
- Providing and processing Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks to support child protection and safer recruitment employment practices
